Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport are the most popular and common injections used to temporarily prevent certain muscles from moving. This reduces the appearance of facial wrinkles and fine lines. For the sake of ease, we’re going to refer to them all as Botox even though Xeomin and Dysport produce the same results at a lower cost. We get asked a lot of questions about Botox so if you are looking for information for your first experience, or just have some lingering questions, we’ve got you covered! Here are the most frequently asked questions about Botox that we get in our clinic:
Is Botox bad for you?
Botox is actually a botulinum toxin and in larger amounts is life-threatening! Rest assured: when injected in such tiny doses for cosmetic purposes, Botox is harmless. The toxin in Botox is what paralyzes the muscles which softens wrinkles and fine lines. Botox is approved by the FDA and is completely safe when injected by a trained medical professional (which we have at our office).
How long do the effects of Botox last?
The effects of Botox last about 3-4 months and it varies from person to person.
What happens to your face when you stop Botox?
There is no harm in stopping Botox injections. The toxin wears off, your muscles will return to normal and the lines will reappear.
Is Botox good for your face?
There are many advantages to getting Botox injections. Botox is not inherently good or bad for your face. It is just a way to freeze muscles to prevent fine lines and wrinkles from appearing and deepening.
What age should you start getting Botox?
Botox injections are approved for anyone over the age of 18. Most experts agree that beginning preventative Botox injections in a person’s 20’s or 30’s is a good idea. This can keep lines and wrinkles from forming as deeply and as quickly.
How much does Botox cost?
The cost of Botox varies by location. At our South Jordan office, we charge $12 per unit of Botox and $10 per unit of Xeomin. Most patients end up needing between 20-40 units, depending on their individual goals.
What should I know before getting Botox for the first time?
There are some common side effects to getting Botox injections. Some people experience mild swelling or headache for a few hours after the procedure, but these symptoms quickly dissipate. The injections are tiny little needles and pain is very minimal if any. It also takes a few days for the effects of Botox to be fully noticed.
