Losing weight is challenging, whether you want to lose 5 pounds or 100 pounds. Everyone wanting to lose weight wants to lose it as quickly as possible. When we are asked, “How can I drop 20 pounds in a week?”, we’d love to be able to present a plan that will help anyone and everyone lose that amount of weight that quickly! However, in order to lose fat, the process requires more patience and time than one week.

There are so many gimmicks and fad diets out there making huge (and fake) promises. At South Valley OrthoMed, we aren’t about gimmicks, fake, or fad. Your health, your body, and your well-being are worth so much more than a detox tea or waist trainer. You deserve the very best weight loss experience and results, and we want to help give that positive experience to you whether you come into our South Jordan clinic or not!

Let’s reframe the question of “How can I drop 20 pounds in a week?” to something like, “How can I drop 20 pounds quickly?”

While it is neither safe, healthy, nor sustainable to try and lose 20 pounds in a week, there are several things you can do to begin losing weight quickly.

Drink More Water

Increasing your water intake is a great place to start with weight loss. Drinking more water can help you feel full, it can reduce your appetite, and it can increase your metabolism

Increase Your Protein

Sometimes we feel like a broken record in regards to protein consumption, but it’s for good reason. Protein can decrease your hunger hormones, help reduce belly fat, and help reduce overall body weight. Replace some of your starchy carbs with quality sources of protein and watch the magic happen!

Count Calories

Counting calories can feel annoying and time consuming, and it is not a requirement for weight loss. However, studies show time and time again that counting calories is one of the most successful ways to lose weight.

Getting Started

If you are at the start of your weight loss journey, check out part one and part two of how to begin your weight loss journey. These posts have more detailed information on habits you can adopt to see real, lasting changes. While you may lose 20 pounds of “weight” with a fancy tea (diarrhea) or drastic carb-cutting, most of the weight loss will be water and it could leave your body in worse shape than when you began. Plus it is very likely you would quickly gain all of that weight back. You don’t want this and we don’t want this for you.

If you would like to talk more about your weight struggles with our wellness specialist, we do offer a free consultation to go over options and goals. We’d love to meet you and get to know how we can help you!
